  1. Great story and memories! 🙂 Thanks for sharing, Deborah! Wishing you well on your book(s) too! I’ll make mention and include links in my 8/31 post.

  3. Debbie, thank you for your wonderful essay on Mrs. Fite. I agree with everything you’ve said about her. She was tough, but eminently fair, and even though I know I was a horrible monster in those days (that I’m certain would have a hard time not vigorously slapping were the roles reversed!), I remember having a lot of respect for her.

    • I was really glad to be able to honor her memory. Kenny feels the same way of course. I don’t know if Steve and Susie had her or not.

    • Since you saw my piece on Mrs. Fite, does this mean you’ve come to the party? I hope so. If you don’t see what you like on the Tasty Treat Table, just ask one of the waiters for it. I was hoping you’d bring your guitar and play along with the Eagles too.

  5. Mrs. Fite was one of a kind. I am not sure if the nasty teacher that you mention was still at Meissner when I came along later but I believe I may have had her. My class was so bad that we caused this teacher to have a nervous break down. She quit teaching after our year. Mrs. Fite was one of a kind and I am still able to diagram a sentence thanks to the daily board assignments.

    • I’m so glad you had Mrs. Fite too. As for the nasty teacher, it must not be the same. The one I’m referring to (Mrs. W******t) would never have a nervous breakdown because she was too busy traumatizing the children. lol

  6. Hi Debbie
What a big hearted and thoughtful gesture to dedicate your precious work to Mrs Ruth Fite. I was
completely in awe of her but also a little afraid. In retrospect, Mrs Fite knew her job and how to motivate her classroom. Congratulations on your literary career and good luck and God bless you and all of your family. Amy Bauer
