Readers have asked on more than one occasion if the “time-surfing” software in my books were real, and if so where they could buy it. (Really. I’m not making that up.) If I actually did have the Beautiful Houses software, the first thing I’d do was sell copies of it for a bazillion dollars. Of course I’d give my V.I.P. Readers a 95% off coupon. And after that I’d use the program to go back in time to see my ancestors. Wouldn’t it be cool to see if you resembled your great, great, great grandparents? And just think how easy it would be to build a family tree that went back to Noah. Alas, I do not own the software.
I have to say that Only One Way Home is my favorite book “child.” Matthias Frailey, one of Patty Ann’s brave ancestors, helps the poor Cherokee people as they pass through Golconda, Illinois on their Trail of Tears to Oklahoma in 1883. Merri falls a little in love with Matthias even though he’s been dead for over a century. And I sort of did too. So I like the book because of him, but also because of my Cherokee connection.
When I did some genealogy research a few years back (alas, without the benefit of Merri’s software) I learned that my Grandma, who was made to feel inferior because of her humble origin, was descended from the proud Cherokee Nation and also from Scottish aristocracy—the kind who lived in castles. So if I could get my hands on a copy of Beautiful Houses, boy, would I use it to see all that! You can read about my Cherokee connection here: http://deborahheal.com/cherokee-connection/
If you owned the software, how would you use it? Feel free to e-mail me. I love hearing from readers and I answer each one personally.
